FAQ's about hiking retreats
-
What is a hiking retreat?
A hiking retreat is a time-out in nature where you can find your way back to yourself. It's not about top athletic performance, but about inner processes that are supported by mindful walking, meditation, reflection and working on current issues. Nature acts like a mirror: it calms you down, challenges you, gives you support and opens up new perspectives. In my retreats, I combine physical exercise with coaching, mindfulness and deep inner reflection - a combination that has a lasting effect and brings you closer to the core of your being.
-
How long does a retreat last?
Most of my hiking retreats last two to five days. This length of time allows you to really step out of your everyday life, get away from it all and engage deeply with yourself. Each day is consciously designed - with exercise, breaks, joint reflection sessions, meditation and time for yourself. The retreats take place in selected regions of Switzerland, in places that radiate strength, peace and space. After the retreat, you will not only return refreshed, but also stronger and clearer inside.
-
How strenuous are the hikes?
My hikes are suitable for people with an average level of fitness. We walk at a mindful pace - with enough breaks to arrive, notice and pause. The focus is not on physical performance, but on inner movement. You don't have to be an experienced hiker or in top athletic shape. Much more important is the willingness to engage with the process. Nature helps you to let go step by step, regenerate and gain new perspectives.
In a short preliminary talk, we will clarify together what you bring to the table - physically, physically and in terms of experience. This allows me to assess whether the chosen retreat is right for you or whether I would recommend a different retreat or a more individual tour. It is important to me that you feel safe and in good hands - at your own pace and with your own story.
-
What do I need to bring for a retreat?
You need weatherproof clothing, good shoes and curiosity about yourself. You will receive a detailed packing list before the retreat. A small notebook in which you can record your thoughts or insights and a light daypack for the journey are also helpful. You are welcome to leave your technical devices in your rucksack - all the more reason to consciously experience the beneficial effects of nature. It's about shedding ballast - inside and out.
-
Can I take part if I have no hiking experience?
Yes, you are very welcome, even if you have no hiking experience. You should be able to walk several hours a day at a moderate pace. My retreats are designed to offer space for all levels of experience. It is not about performance, but about presence. Nature is our teacher, not as a challenge, but as an ally. If you are ready to get involved and are open to new experiences, this is the right place for you.
-
How big are the groups at the retreats?
I deliberately work with small groups, a maximum of 8 to 10 people. This size enables genuine exchange, mutual support and at the same time sufficient space for retreat and individual processes. The atmosphere is respectful, personal and based on trust. Many participants appreciate this combination in particular: being in a community, but also being able to stay on their own. You are not alone and yet completely with yourself.
-
Are there individual coaching sessions or personal support?
Yes, every retreat offers space for individual support. I am not only a hiking guide, but also a coach and will be happy to accompany you in one-to-one conversations if you wish. Sometimes you need a clarifying conversation, an impulse or simply someone to listen. These conversations usually take place in nature, on a path, on a rock, at the edge of the forest. They are voluntary, but often very effective and transformative.
-
Are there fixed times for meditation or mindfulness?
Mindfulness is not the focus, but a possible part of the retreat - an attitude, not a compulsory program. Much more important to me is working with nature, with the elements and materials it gives us: stones, roots, grasses, leaves, wood, earth, paths, backdrops.
We work with our hands, not just with our heads. For example, you can collect objects along the way and create something later. If you like, you can also draw, work with colors or find your own forms of expression.
It's not about sitting still and "feeling" - it's about connecting with what's inside you and what surrounds you in a creative, physical and sensual way. Meditation can be part of this - but it doesn't have to be. Everyone finds their own approach.
-
How sustainable are the retreats?
For me, sustainability is an inner and outer attitude. When planning the retreats, I look for environmentally friendly travel options, use local accommodation and work with people who live by similar values. During the retreat itself, we also promote mindfulness in dealing with resources, nature and fellow human beings. Because real transformation doesn't just happen within us, but also in how we relate to the world.
-
How do I register for a retreat?
You can easily register by sending me an email to lara@laramandioni.ch or calling me directly on 079 253 56 86. After you have contacted me, I will get in touch with you personally. We will discuss your motivation, your questions and see together whether the chosen retreat suits you. Only then will you make a binding registration. It is important to me that you feel you are in good hands right from the start and that the retreat really suits your current life situation.
-
What if I'm not the meditation type or don't like it?
Then that's completely fine. My tours are not silent meditation retreats and there is no compulsion for mindfulness or introspection. If you simply want to hike, switch off, exercise or push yourself to your limits, you are just as welcome.
I will find a suitable approach for you - perhaps through awareness of nature, specific tasks, conversations or conscious walking. There are many ways to accompany you, even without traditional meditation.
I work individually, intuitively and situationally. What counts is that you feel good and move forward - in your own way.
